David Barr
and Sergio De Giusti at the August 28th unveiling of Transcending, their winning design for
the Labor Legacy Landmark to be constructed in downtown Detroit beginning in
2002.
The internationally known local sculptors designed a 59 foot high steel arch
engraved with words capturing labor’s spirit complemented by 14 six-foot tall
natural boulders showing scenes from our past and our vision for the
future.
Barr was an organizer of the staff union at Macomb Community College, his father
worked for 35 years at the Jefferson Avenue Chrysler plant.
